Siemens
Medical Systems Names BURLE Industries as "Supplier of The Year"
Lancaster, PA-On
November 15, 2001, BURLE Industries received "Supplier of the Year"
award by Siemens Medical Solutions, one of the world's largest medical
equipment manufacturers. This prestigious annual award is given to those
suppliers that have best met the company's stringent performance expectations.
Accepting the award
in Orlando, Florida on behalf of BURLE Industries was Mr. Carl Rintz,
President/Chief Operating Officer and Mr. Luis Vera, Vice President
Sales and Marketing.
BURLE was one of more than 600 suppliers that Siemens Medical Solutions
routinely work with during the year. BURLE was up against eight finalists
including some tough competition with the likes of Dell Computer, Kodak
Imaging and Allentown-based Air Products. Siemens Medical Solutions'
judges based their decision on four performance categories: Technology,
Marketing, Quality and Logistics. BURLE Industries scored the highest
total score among all other finalists. By providing this level of performance,
BURLE remains a key partner with Siemens Medical Solutions.
BURLE Industries
and Siemens Medical Solutions have collaborated for several years in
providing its Photomultiplier Tubes for their medical diagnostic E.CAM
Gamma Scanners.
BURLE's Photomultiplier
Tubes are an integral part of Siemens' E.CAM Scanners. As the scanner
emits photons to the section of the body being examined, the photomultiplier
tube detects gamma rays from the patient caused by the emitted photons.
BURLE's Photomultiplier Tube converts these photons into electrons,
creating an electronic image that radiologists and doctors use to diagnosis
a medical condition.
BURLE Industries
is a global leader for Photomultipliers Tubes. Photomultipliers are
used in many scientific detection applications including space exploration,
oil drilling, drug discovery and more.
Siemens Medical
Solutions, a division of Siemens AG, is one of the largest suppliers
of healthcare equipment manufacturers in the world. The company is renowned
for its innovative products, services and complete solutions, ranging
from imaging systems for diagnosis and therapy equipment for treatment,
to electromedicine and hearing instruments to IT solutions that optimize
workflow and increase efficiency in hospitals, clinics and doctors'
offices.

BURLE
Announces 40mm Diameter Advanced Performance TOF Detector for Mass Spec
Applications
Sturbridge,
MA – October 24, 2003 – BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. announces
the development and offering of its new 40mm diameter Advanced Performance
Time-of-Flight Detector. The new patented detector’s unique small
pore 5-micron MCP technology combined with a larger collection area
offers higher performance, improved mass resolution and fast timing
for TOF Mass Spectrometry.
Of special interest
to instrument designers is the detector’s large format, 650 ps
pulse width and 300 ps rise time for previously unobtainable levels
of mass resolution, dynamic range, and detection sensitivity that is
ten time that of conventional MCPs. In addition, the detector’s
flat surface provides uniform ion conversion while the higher aspect
ratio of the MCPs produce gains in excess of 107.
The new detector is housed in BURLE’s Quick-Fit® replaceable
MCP cartridge to make maintenance fast and easy. Quick-Fit® cartridges
include a set of two Chevron™ Long-Life™ small pore MCPs
and a high voltage transmission grid mounted in a rugged module with

Breakthrough
in Red and Near-Infrared Spectral Detection with BURLE's MCP Photomultiplier
BURLEs
new 85104 Microchannel Plate Photomultiplier (MCP-PMT) incorporates
a unique semi-transparent gallium-arsenide photocathode to provide quantum
efficiencies of greater than 20% from 370nm through 850nm with peak
efficiency of 30% at 700nm. This outstanding response is obtained over
a large 18mm diameter photocathode with a dark count rate of less than
200 counts per second. The result is unequaled sensitivity for applications
requiring low light detection such as chemiluminescence and bioluminescence.
By
using a dual MCP electron multiplier, the 85104 can offer a combination
of high gain, single electron resolution, fast time response and excellent
pulse linearity. Gains greater than 106 are typical with
a peak-to-valley ratio of better than 2:1. This performance is achieved
with a low dark count rate for the most demanding photon counting applications.
The single electron pulse risetime is 750ps, with a pulse width of 2.5ns,
providing high peak counting rates approaching 100MHz and a maximum
average photon-counting rate of 5 MHz.
The
85104 MCP Photomultiplier is provided with an integral voltage divider
network for ease of use. For more demanding applications, individual
leads for biasing the cathode and MCP independently are available to
allow gated operation. This configuration is especially useful for applications
such as LIDAR and fluorescence microscopy

INDUSTRIES Introduces Its New 5901 MAGNUM® Electron Multiplier
BURLE
INDUSTRIES, INC announces the addition of the 5901 MAGNUM®
to BURLE’s popular compact MAGNUM®
Electron Multiplier line.
The 5901 MAGNUM®
Electron Multiplier is specifically designed for pulse counting applications
involving the detection of charged particles and electro-magnetic radiation.
BURLE’s exclusive Spiraltron™ technology uses six individual
spiral multiplier channels all fed by a single integral ion collection
aperture. This increases the linear output current and maximum count
rate while promoting longer detector life. Feedback noise is also virtually
eliminated by the high degree of channel curvature. The
detector is also available with attached leads for prototyping applications.
The replaceable
5901 MAGNUM®
cartridge is easily installed and specially designed to be an exact
replacement for the original cartridge.

Revolutionary
Approach Developed for Electron Impact Ionization for MS Applications
BURLE
Electro-Optics, Inc. announces a revolutionary product that is expected
to change the way mass spectrometry instruments generate gas-phase ions
for their mass filters and many other applications. BURLE’s new
Electron Generator Array™ (EGA) replaces filament-based electron
sources that offer no warm-up time or stabilization period requirement,
greater control over the electron beam’s shape and a highly uniform
flux density up to 1.0 x 10-10 A/cm2.
Until now, use of conventional filament sources for producing electrons
was the long-established standard. One problem with filaments is that
they often cause pyrolytic effects, which chemically change the unknown
substance to be identified.
BURLE's patented
Electron Generator Arrays™ (EGAs), solve the problem by producing
a cold electron source that offers a rock solid electron flux without
the heat and “photon noise” typically generated from filament
ionization sources.
BURLE EGAs exceptionally
low heat output is a direct result of lowering power consumption. A
BURLE EGA producing a 50uA flux evenly distributed over a 50mm x 8mm
area, and consumes less than a half a watt. Virtually all the current
is used to produce the electron flux with no heating of the EGA.
The BURLE EGA consist
of millions of precision glass tubes (pores) all fused together to produce
a uniform and mechanically rigid structure. When voltage is applied
across it's thickness, each pore produces a beam of highly uniform and
extremely dense electrons. The result is an electron beam that is more
uniform over a wider area than conventional filament sources.
Applications for
BURLE EGAs include Electron Impact Ionization sources in Mass Spectroscopy,
Fluorescent display screens, electron scrub sources, sample discharge
for SEMs and more.
BURLE Electron Generator
Arrays™ can be manufactured in any shape offering a beam shape
customized to meet any application requirement. EGAs are available in
an easy to use assembly consisting of a 40mm active area EGA Chevron™
mounted in stainless steel hardware with mounting holes and electrical
connection terminals. Custom shapes, sizes and configurations are also
available.
