BURLE Announces 40mm Diameter Advanced Performance TOF Detector for Mass Spec Applications

Sturbridge, MA – October 24, 2003 – BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. announces the development and offering of its new 40mm diameter Advanced Performance Time-of-Flight Detector. The new patented detector’s unique small pore 5-micron MCP technology combined with a larger collection area offers higher performance, improved mass resolution and fast timing for TOF Mass Spectrometry.

Of special interest to instrument designers is the detector’s large format, 650 ps pulse width and 300 ps rise time for previously unobtainable levels of mass resolution, dynamic range, and detection sensitivity that is ten time that of conventional MCPs. In addition, the detector’s flat surface provides uniform ion conversion while the higher aspect ratio of the MCPs produce gains in excess of 107.

The new detector is housed in BURLE’s Quick-Fit® replaceable MCP cartridge to make maintenance fast and easy. Quick-Fit® cartridges include a set of two Chevron™ Long-Life™ small pore MCPs and a high voltage transmission grid mounted in a rugged module with an integral 50 Ω impedance matched conical anode. This module is available separately or mounted on a 6” conflat flange.

The addition of BURLE Electro-Optics’ patented 40mm Time-of-Flight Detector rounds out the largest selection of detectors available in the world with 17 models in sizes ranging from 8mm to 40mm.

BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc., headquartered in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, is the world leader in Time-of-Flight detector technology, offering the highest temporal resolution detectors for both ADC and TDC based systems. A pioneer in developing scientific detector products, the company is recognized as the worldwide leader in electron multiplication technology for its Channeltron® Mass Spectrometer Detectors, Long-Life™ Microchannel Plates and Advanced Performance Detectors.

New Resistive Glass Products Developed for Analytical Instrument Designers and Manufacturers

STURBRIDGE, MA – August 11, 2003 – BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. announces the development and offering of patent pending Resistive Glass products for analytical instrument designers and manufacturers. BURLE Electro-Optics’ newest capability offers a wide array of Resistive Glass shapes and sizes including tubes, sheets, washers as well as custom shapes to fit any requirement at a lower cost.

BURLE Electro-Optics’ precision Resistive Glass products are manufactured from a proprietary lead silicate glass that has been doped to produce a resistive surface. Resulting devices can be custom designed with one or more resistive areas based on the instrument designer’s specific requirements. Importantly, resistivity can be varied over three orders of magnitude in order to optimize current flow and electric field strength.
Typical Resistive Glass product applications include Ion Guides, Voltage Dividers, Conversion Dynodes, Ion Mirrors, Reflectron Lenses, Drift Tubes for Ion Mobility Spectrometers and more.

BURLE’s Resistive Glass products are available in both tube and sheet form, each customizable to a variety of shapes. Electrodes can be in a variety of materials and configurations. In addition, mechanical interfaces such as flanges, grids and meshes are available.

BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. is headquartered in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. For additional product and ordering information concerning Resistive Glass products, contact BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. New MCP-Photomultiplier with 64 Anodes Offers Superior Position Sensing

LANCASTER, PA – January 17, 2003 – BURLE INDUSTRIES, INC. announces the addition of the 85011 PLANACON™ MCP-PMT to its family of low profile MCP-based photomultipliers. This 2" square head-on MCP-PMT with integrated voltage divider network is less than one inch thick and provides 6mm position resolution when used as a discreet pixel device while offering a spectral response of 165 to 660 Nanometers.

The 85011 PLANACON™ is based ona  revolutionary photomultiplier tube that utilizes microchannel plates (MCP) for electron multiplication. Its sixty-four anodes provide a superior 6mm position resolution with even higher resolutions possible using the charge-sharing technique with an alternate voltage divider network.

The dual MCP multiplier yeilds excellent time response, good gain, and extremely high pulse linearity. Response uniformity over the full 2" square active area is exceptional, typically 1:1.5. The assembly comes complete with terminated anode and high voltage cables for ease of use.

Applications for the 80511 PLANACON™ include specialized medical imaging, ring imaging Cherenkov counters, fluorescence microscopy, and high-speed applications such as LIDAR.

The 85011 PLANACON™ is available immediately by calling 800-366-2875 or 717-295-6888.

For additional product and ordering information concerning the 85011 PLANACON™ contact BURLE INDUSTRIES, INC. 1000 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601-5688 USA; 800-366-2875, 717-295-6888, International Calls: 717-295-6733, Fax: 717-295-6096, E-Mail: burlesls@burle.com; web site: www.burle.com
